Andrej Themar extends Pirates stay

Smailes Goldie Hull Pirates can confirm that forward Andrej Themar has agreed a new deal with the club.

The Slovakian has been an instant hit since joining the Pirates in the summer, leading the EPL in goals with 32 and in points with 54 in just 25 games.

The new deal will see Themar stay with the Pirates for next season. He will be joined by netminder Jordan Marr, who has already agreed a deal until the end of the 2017/18 season.

Discussing the deal, Head Coach Dominic Osman said “It’s been an absolute pleasure to be able to sign Themar for next season. It just goes to show where our programme is heading and the direction we are going when players want to return.

“From a playing stand point, when we decided to sit down with Themar, we were able to come up with a quick agreement from both party’s standpoint.

“We’re very happy with what he brings to the team on and off-the-ice. Anytime you can re-sign a player of his calibre is a great thing and we’re really excited to be bringing him back on-board.”

Pirates owner and assistant coach Shane Smith added “we’ve always said we’ve wanted to build for this year and build for the future.

“Themar coming in and proving what he has, he’s a good goal scorer in this league. Going forward you want to have that core group and he is one player that we want for the future.

“Themar has quickly become a fan favourite with some of the goals he has scored! We wanted to give fans what they wanted and we’re happy to be able to bring him back. We’re now looking at adding around him for next season.”

Andrej Themar will be back in action for the Pirates this weekend. Hull travel to league leaders Telford Tigers tomorrow before returning to the Hull Arena to face Swindon Wildcats on Sunday (5:30pm faceoff).
