The Smailes Goldie Hull Pirates are pleased to announce the signing of 23 year old British defenceman Harry Harley. He comes to the Hull Pirates feom the Whitley Warriors where, during last seasons campaign, he accrued 31 points from 37 appearances.

Harley plays a gritty, hard working, physical fame typical of the Whitley Bay system where he grew up and learnt his trade. He is a great skating offensive defenceman and makes a great first pass out of the zone. He has a tremendous shot and will be a great quarterback for the power play.

Harry spoke to us about the mive to Hull:
"I had a terrific time throughout my hockey career playing in Whitley Bay, I’ve had some fantastic mentors and can’t thank them enough.

When Hewy got in contact with me I felt that this would be a pivotal move in my hockey career. The games I’ve played against Hull were always great, especially in Hull, so it was a relatively easy decision to make.

I certainly think the team was one of the best teams I played last year so I am hoping, with the plans that Hewy has, we really should be pushing for the title.

I hope to just improve my game further and keep developing. I’m not a selfish player, I make a good first pass and can jump in on the rush. So I just hope to keep improving those aspects of my game whilst staying defensively solid."

Head Coach Jason Hewitt explained why Harley was a target for him during the off season:
"Harry is a player I was set on getting in our team this year, he’s a solid smooth skating defenceman who can jump up in the play and contribute offensively.

Last year we lost a defenseman for 10 weeks and we were really short on the back end. I wanted some depth back there and Harry gives us that and a hell of a lot more.

I’m over the moon to have Harry in our team and I think you guys will be too when the season starts!"

Ladies and gentlemen, please join us in welcoming Harry Harley to the Pirates Nation!!
