IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR

The Smailes Goldie Hull Pirates are pleased to announce Joseph Gent as part of the goaltending contingent for the 2017/18 season. Joe has been around the team, developing, for the past two seasons and Head Coach Jason Hewitt feels that now is the time for him to step up. The 18 year old goalie has played his hockey in Nottingham and Sheffield and is the younger brother of Pirates forward Josh Gent, he has the same dogged determination, will to succeed and positive attitude as his older sibling which makes him a perfect fit for the Pirates organisation. The signing of Joe Gent shows the investment the Hull Pirates have in developing the future stars of British ice hockey and giving them the opportunity to hone their skills against talented players.

Speaking with Hewitt about Joe he said:

“Joe is a young up and coming netminder who backed up a couple of games last season. He’s an ambitious, young goalie looking to take the next step and prove himself this year. He won’t be spending the season sat on the bench and we will be looking to give him the opportunity in certain games to see what he is made of.

He’s a great kid and someone who is a pleasure to be around, I am really looking forward to working with him and seeing him develop throughout the season.”

We will be releasing details of another piece of the netminding puzzle in a couple of days and want to really thank the fans for their patience. We understand that it’s been a frustrating time for our fan base, but we can assure you that everything is place for what promises to be an exciting season for us all!

We also acknowledge that there are frustrations around the releasing of the seasons fixtures, please understand that this matter is largely out of our control. There have been some difficulties for the EIHA putting the fixtures together and meeting the requirements of all the teams in our league. These issues have virtually been resolved now and we have been sent a draft of the season’s fixtures, these should be confirmed over the weekend and then we will be in a position to release the full fixture list.

Again, we thank you all for your support and understanding, it is exciting and humbling to see the passion you all have for your team and we can’t wait to see you filling our building once more.
